Tile photo coasters

My mom told me she wanted some photo coasters last year sometime. This was another project that I started months ago and got stuck, ran out of time and just put it away. But I dragged it back out for Mothers' Day.

I got some tumbled stone tiles at Home Depot. I think they were like 30 cents each, but I can't remember.

I was generally following this tutorial, but ran into problems using tissue paper. It's really difficult to work with and I made a resolution not to put anything sticky through my new printer (scotch tape, labels), so I decided to just use photo paper instead.

I cropped, resized and printed out some photos. Cut them to size and then glued them to the tiles with Mod Podge. I gave them a quick coat of sealer to prevent the ink from smearing and after it was dry, I coated the tops of the photos with Mod Podge.

Then I gave it a few coats of clear sealer, making sure it was water resistant.

Next I glued some thin cork coasters to the bottom of the tiles with hot glue. In hindsight, it might have been smart to heat up the tiles, like setting them out in the sun so the glue wouldn't cool and harden quite so fast.

I also might consider using tiles with a flat surface in the future since I won't be using tissue paper.

Pretty cute though! And they look way more expensive than they actually were.
