Freebie planner gets a makeover

Shhh... don't tell my mom's hairdresser, but I wasn't too excited to use this free promotional planner. Kind of ugly, no?

The planner inside was fine, but the outside was blah. So I gave it a quick and easy makeover with Mod Podge and a piece of scrapbook paper from my stash.

Quick tutorial below the jump...

1. Wrap paper around the outside of the planner and cut to fit. I left a slight margin because the vinyl cover had a stamped border that I'm sure the Mod Podge wouldn't stick to.

2. Spread a thin layer of Mod Podge on the backside of the front half of the paper and the part that will wrap around the spine.

3. Adhere the paper to the front of the planner, straighten and smooth with your fist to get all the bubbles out. Press firmly. Some excess Mod Podge may ooze out the sides, but just wipe it off. If the paper starts to "warp" a little, don't fret. It will probably flatten once the Mod Podge dries.

4. Wrap the paper around the spine of the planner, pulling the paper taut.

5. If the paper overhangs the edge of the planner, trim to fit.

6. Spread a thin layer of Mod Podge on the backside of the paper. Wrap around the spine and press firmly to adhere and smooth.

I used a paper with a slight sheen to it so I wouldn't have to seal with Mod Podge over the top of the paper. (There's probably a name for this kind of paper, but I don't know what it is!) My reasoning is that the cover will be more pliable without extra glaze, but it would probably work either way.

I also covered a planner I bought at the dollar store. Pretty and cheap!

Excuse me, but I have some planning to do now.
